Our mission is to serve as a comprehensive resource support center for people diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer and their caregivers, and to provide an international symptom awareness campaign of ovarian and peritoneal cancers.
The Martha C. Kinnecom PPC Foundation was created shortly after Martha was diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer in September 2008. Martha and her family were surprised at the lack of information and resources available on PPC and so decided to make a positive impact on other's lives out of Martha's misfortune. As a family, we established this foundation with hopes to become an online resource for patients and caregivers.
About the Butterfly
We selected the butterfly to be the Foundation’s logo as a special tribute to Martha’s faith, love for gardening and nature, and her forever fondness of the delicate and beautiful creatures. Throughout many traditions and belief systems, butterflies are powerful symbols for transformation and change. The butterfly has long been a Christian symbol of resurrection, for the caterpillar disappears into a cocoon and appears dead, but later emerges far more beautiful and powerful. As a symbol of Christ's resurrection, the butterfly also represents every Christian's hope of resurrection from the dead into a glorious new life. The butterfly also signifies joy and dance; she dances from flower to flower teaching the lesson that life is a joyful dance. This is how Martha lived her earthly life, and how she will always be remembered.
